Department Awards
Medal of Valor
The Medal of Valor is awarded to a sworn deputy
who, in the performance of his/her duty in a situation of
extreme danger to the Deputy, and where strong possibility
exists that serious injury or death to the individual at the
time, and the act of valor, bravery or courage is beyond normal
expectations.
Distinguished Service Medal
The Distinguished Service Medal is presented to a sworn deputy
who, performs acts of outstanding personal bravery intelligently
performed in the line of duty at imminent personal hazard
to life under circumstances demonstrating a disregard of personal
consequences.
Sheriff's Merit Award
The Sheriff's Merit Award will be presented to a
sworn deputy upon commission of an intelligent and valuable
police service that demonstrated unusual devotion to duty
or valor.
Exemplary Service Award
The Exemplary Service Award will be presented to a sworn deputy
who demonstrates exemplary service in job performance, citizen
contacts, and overall attitude and has three occurrences or
less of lost time in a year (to a maximum of seven days lost
time excluding injured or maternity time) and no sustained
disciplinary action for a period of two years.
Squad citation
The Squad Citation shall be presented to sworn members
of a squad who, as a team, exhibited exceptional professional
skill and conduct during a coordinated Department initiative.
Dedicated Service Citation
Upon uninterurupted completion of service to the Windham County
Sheriff's Department for
1. 10 Years, or
2. 20 Years, or
3. 30 Years
Sheriff's Distinguished Citizen's Award
The Distinguished Citizen’s Award will be presented
to a citizen who, at grave and imminent personal danger, provides
extraordinary service to the Windham County Sheriff's Department
or substantially assists in the apprehension of a criminal.
Sheriff's Citizen's Award
The Sheriff's Citizen’s Award will be presented
to citizens who have aided the Windham County Sheriff's Department
beyond an ordinary expectation of a citizen.
